I will finally be teaching and I am so excited to share my techniques, insights and resources with you! The class will be for beginners-you know you have always wanted to try your hand at painting-here is your opportunity to embark on an artistic journey in a casual fun environment where exploration of oil painting will give you a new way of 'seeing' the world! Join me for a series of three classes in Evergreen or Crested Butte where inspiration is everywhere! Contact me directly at marindobson@aol.com or the galleries at www.stoneheartgallery.com, Evergreen  or www.rijksfamilygallery.com, Crested Butte for details and to register for space is very limited. Please see the outline below for general workshop information and many thanks for your support!

Artistic Journey: Dialogues and Exploration of the Basics of Oil  Painting

Prior to creating a work of art an artist needs certain tools, training and a sense of adventure! Marin will present a series of three classes for the beginning oil painter. These classes will consist of a dialogue with students on the basics of oil painting, painting demonstrations, and in classes 2 and 3, student painting at the easel. It is designed to introduce the medium and jump start the artistic process. All classes will include discussion of essentials such as color, temperature, edges, form, and composition.

The first class, Where to Begin,  will address the beginning stages of oil painting with discussions on paint , pallet, canvas, brushes, easels, mediums, etc. and a demonstration of technique. Students will receive information on the tools of the trade and reference materials that will help them on their journey in paint. This is a preparatory class to guide students in purchasing materials for oil painting, setting up a pallet, and will allow the student to begin with confidence. It will include information on color theory and exercises for color mixing for students to work on before the second class.

The second class, Applying Paint,  will include ongoing dialogue, a demonstration and student painting experience,in which each participant will explore the medium. Students will learn to see with the artists eye, paint from life and  have some fun experiencing the joy of manipulating paint with a variety of tools. We will consider the importance of composition and learn basic compositional elements.  We will also view and discuss the work of a variety of artists with a range of styles and enjoy an interactive painting demonstration.

The third class, Moving On, will focus on establishing a vision for our work and the role of composition, value, edges, temperature and other elements to communicate in paint. Thumbnail sketches and the value of small works will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will have ample opportunity for questions and assistance. We will discuss how to thoughtfully take our art to the next level. A painting demonstration will be included -with interactive dialogue, of course!
